stained and distressed canvas, acrylic paints, market basket fragment, sea shells, linen thread

Art’s a staple. Like bread or wine or a warm coat in winter.
Those who think it is a luxury have only a fragment of a mind.
Man’s spirit grows hungry for art in the same way his stomach growls for food.

My work, as I see it, is to cultivate the garden of creativity by being so wholly present that I am absent, disappearing entirely into the movement of making, and marvelling at what gets made. Later – often much later – meaning might arrive. Or not.

A mind that’s wondering and a heart full of wonder drive my creative life, ensuring I never get trapped in the clutches of any personal style or narrative. For me, the adventure of creativity – of making – overshadows the need to produce a certain kind of art product.

I don’t have things to say; I am simply and unapologetically “on the make.”

The Absolute works with nothing.
The workshop, the materials
are what does not exist.
Try and be a sheet of paper with nothing on it.
Be a spot of ground where nothing is growing,
where something might be planted,
a seed, possibly, from the Absolute.
- Rumi
