making love with light

[roses]

Using the traditional layering method employed by the fresco painters,
I begin with the deepest tones of hues and pull out the forms with white.
The process continues through layer upon layer of colour;
I marvel at the way light creates form.

I didn’t set out to paint roses.
As I played with this technique the roses
– or rather, their sublime architecture – appeared.
I adore roses, so I made them welcome.
