wonderboxes

celebrating the wonder of the everyday

Miriam Louisa Simons - wonderbox series

wonderbox, Kyoto – aizome kakemono

These are little altars where the small and often overlooked miracles of life get to find a home.  I’ve been making them for as long as I remember.  The earliest ones were hidden inside shoe boxes and you had to peek through a tiny hole to view them.

Since they are created using a variety of techniques and processes – collage, assemblage, paper-making, textile dyeing and painting, oil and acrylic painting, stitching, gilding – they could have been included in the technique mixte group.  However, since they are all the same size and format, and share an affinity of expression, I’ve grouped them separately.

The images below show details from the works; clicking on them takes you to the full size image with notes.
