my devotion to the unknown finds a surprising new expression inspired by the meditative Tantric art of Rajasthan

Miriam Louisa Simons, artwork, OMNI.MA series series – installation view

A series of works on paper in which I respond to a prompt to tell about my relationship with creation’s Great Mother, and to invite Her to tell about Herself.  There is no intention to exhibit or sell these works; making them has turned out to be an intensely personal encounter – I had no idea what I was letting myself in for.

We are surrounded and embraced by her;
powerless to separate ourselves from her,
and powerless to penetrate beyond her.
We live in her midst and know her not.
She is incessantly speaking to us,
but betrays not her secret.

– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 – 1832)
